02Who It's For

This is for you if…

You work in ports, shipping, logistics or maritime — or you’re working your way in. You might be early in your career or leading a team. You might be the only woman in the room, or one of a small handful. You might be an ally who believes the sector performs better when it reflects the world it serves.

Whatever your role, you’re here because you know things need to change — and you’d rather be part of that change than watch from the sidelines.

03What You Get

Everything that comes with free membership

  • A newsletter worth reading

Insight, research and real conversations from across the ports and maritime sector — curated for people who work in it, not just observe it.

  • A seat at the panel

Members are invited to speak, participate and be heard at Women in Ports events and panels. Your perspective belongs in the conversation.

  • Your voice in advocacy

Your opinions help shape our campaigning and policy work. When we speak to industry and government, we're carrying the views of our members — including yours.

  • Your data, used for good

We aggregate member data to build the evidence base for change. Every data point you contribute helps make the case for gender diversity across the sector.

  • Events and resources

Access to events, guides and resources designed for people building careers and driving change in ports and maritime.

  • Discounted Academy courses

Members get reduced rates on Women in Ports Academy courses — practical training built for the sector, by people who understand it.

04The Movement

A global movement, built from the ground up

Ports handle trade across every continent. The data gap — who works in them, at what level, and why women leave — is a global problem. Solving it requires a global network.

Women in Ports is building exactly that: a connected community whose collective data, voices and experiences create the evidence base that drives real change. Not a report that sits in a drawer. A live, growing picture of what the sector looks like — and what it needs to look like.

We launched in 2024. Professionals from across the UK ports sector — senior leaders and those earlier in their careers, commercial ports and trust ports, large operations and small — were among the first to get involved.

“Women in Ports matters. It’s the network women in this industry actually need — visible, vocal, and pushing for real change.”

06Questions

Common questions

  • Is it really free?

Yes. Individual membership costs nothing and always will. We don't charge individuals because your participation — your data, your voice, your presence — is the point. That's how the evidence base gets built.

  • Do I have to work in ports specifically?

No. If you work anywhere across the ports and maritime sector — shipping, logistics, harbour operations, policy, consulting, or any adjacent role — you're welcome here. So are allies who support greater gender diversity in the industry.

  • I'm just starting out in the sector. Is this for me?

Yes. We have members at every career stage, from people just entering the industry to senior leaders. Both matter equally to what we're building.

  • What will you do with my data?

We aggregate member data anonymously to build the evidence base for gender diversity across the sector. We never sell your data or share it in a way that identifies you. Your information goes into a HubSpot database and is used to support our advocacy and campaigning work.

  • How much of my time will this take?

As much or as little as you want to give. Joining takes 30 seconds. After that, you choose what you engage with — the newsletter, events, panels, courses. There's no minimum commitment.

  • Will you spam me?

No. You'll receive our newsletter and relevant event invitations. That's it unless you opt in to more. You can unsubscribe at any time.
